Computer shopping
Computer shopping is done these days at large “discount” stores where you can get a lousy deal together with lousy service.
I’m old enough to recall the days when “Mom & Pop” shops ruled the market - and you actually got SERVICE there as well. Why? Because the owners of those shops KNEW what they had, and what worked with YOUR computer.
I just had a happy reminder of those good ol’ days.
My desktop computer, which is in fact a lunchbox-sized computer, broke the base of it’s CPU heat sink, and like a good computer guy, I put off fixing my computer for a few days while I had been looking through a few of the larger “discount” stores for a heat sink for one of these lunchbox size computers (that they all sell…)
I couldn’t find one.
I happen to have stopped in at a little shop on our Main St. and asked the shop owner if he had a heat sink for that unit. “No, nothing like that.”
Well how about just the base? “Hm, let me check…” And he proceeded to rustle about in a box of motherboards and pulled a good base off of a board!
YES!!! Back in business!
Remember - if you want SERVICE - go to someone who knows his business. If you want to feel like one of the herd, go to a “discount” store where they might know the prices.
