Free Firewall - what is it?

Free Firewall?

Ok, you want a free firewall. Do you know what it is you’re asking for besides something to protect your computers that you are not willing to pay for?

Other than that, are you asking for a software-on-your-computer or a hardware-based free firewall that you might run on a separate computer (such as a window firewall) or modified router?

All of these are available, but which is better for you?

If you have only one computer to connect to the Internet, then a software firewall is the easiest way to go - period.

However, if you don’t want your comupter to become hijacked and sending out spam, you need more.

At the very minimum, a software firewall on your computer and a router should be considered.

Better yet, a software firewall on your computer along with a router will at least somewhat hide your computer, but it will still be accessable by your ISP and hackers/crackers.

If you want to protect your network or your computer, get an old computer with at least 256MB of RAM and a 10GB hard drive and you can download firewall software for it and run a real firewall that your ISP and hackers/crackers will have a very tough time getting through.

Don’t trust your computer to a security company that “protects” your computer using programming that is based on Internet software with a VERY bad security history. That would be what is called an “oxymoron”.
