Windows Genuine Advantage - broken

Windows Genuine Advantage is a genuine pain and has been giving us fits.

It’s purpose is to make sure you are not running a pirated version of Windows, which is funny because the owners of Windows (Microsoft) have been judged in legal courts of law internationally as guilty of pirating software a few times themselves.

We have had Windows Genuine Advantage give the message that “Windows is not Genuine” on a brand new Dell computer, on a computer that the CD key was changed to a brand new CD key from a just purchased Windows CD (using the Microsoft CD key changer tool), and more.

If Windows Genuine Advantage gives you the “Windows is not Genuine” error, you have to call Microsoft tech support for help.

But they can’t help.

We’ve been as far as the 4th level of tech support because of the Windows Genuine Advantage “Windows is not Genuine” error, with nothing more than “Sorry, we can’t help you.” from Microsoft.

We’d really like to see this buggy software fixed, but Microsoft still has major troubles and delays with the next version of Windows (Vista) so I think most of their efforts are going to go there for the time being, not on the Windows Genuine Advantage program.
