Archiveus virus/trojan

The Archiveus virus/trojan injects a pasword on files in your My Documants folder. And then tells you that you have to buy drugs at a website to get the password to your files.

If ‘ransomware’ such as the Archiveus virus/trojan become more widespread, it of course will be major trouble to many. (If you did get hit with Archiveus virus/trojan Symantec has the passwords here.)

There is a simple preventative action that can protect from this sort of idiocy.

Do not use the ‘My Documents’ folder. It is a well known folder that exists on _every_ Windows computer since Windows 98.

Simply create another folder and name it Documents, Docs, My Stuff or whatever and move your files to that folder.

However - DON’T FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR FILES!!! External hard drives, CDs and USB ‘pen drives’ are very cheap. USE THEM!
