Alarm clock in your computer?
The Internet, Internet radio broadcasts, WinAmp and ‘Scheduled Tasks’ to the
rescue!
NOTE:
You must be using Microsoft Windows 98 or higher in order for this to work.
WinAmp is a very nice, free Windows media player that uses very little
resources. You probably can do this with other media players, but for
lightness I prefer WinAmp. You can download it here: http://www.wimamp.com
‘Scheduled Tasks’ is an item in your Control Panel.
How to set your alarm clock:
—————————————-
0) Download and install Winamp.
1) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, ‘Scheduled Tasks’.
2) Create a new Task.
3) Browse for the WinAmp executable, this should be here:
C:PROGRAM FILESWINAMPWINAMP.EXE
4) Set a scheduled time for when you need to wake up.
5) Ok your choices, the dialog box will close.
6) Right-click on that new Task and click on Properties.
7) Leaving that window open, open your web browser.
8) Go to the web page of your favorite station, find the link to listen to
that station, right-click on it and click “Copy link location” and
close your web browser.
9) Back in the window for the Scheduled Task, where the path to the Winamp
program is shown, go to the end of that line, hit your Spacebar, and now
right-click and click on Paste. You should have ended up with something
similar to this in the command field:
“C:PROGRAM FILESWINAMPWINAMP.EXE” “http://radioparadise.com/musiclinks/rp_192.m3u”
10) Click Ok.
Now if you really want an honest-to-god LOUD alarm, plug in your home
stereo, and crank the volume - you’ll wake up! Just watch out for the
neighbors… And if your home stereo is in another room, you can get a
small FM transmitter that will broadcast your alarm to the stereo.
For a travelling alarm clock, do the same on your laptop!
And you don’t NEED an Internet connection. You can schedule WinAmp to play
any song or playlist you have stored on your computer just as easily.
