Dell technical support
Dell technical support (as well as many others such as SBC, Earthlink, etc.) have turned to ‘outsourcing’ to bring down the costs of their technical support.
Trying to cut down on technical support costs is not a bad thing of itself, however, these guys are turning to non-technicians to give you technical support for their product(s) so the help you get is mid-range at best. (Unless you’ve learned to scream like we do and make it to 2nd or 3rd level tech support…)
Even worse is that your Indian Dell technical support ‘technician’ (rather, script-reader) starts the whole session off with a lie - with her wonderful Indian accent, the script reader tells you “Hello, my name is Elizabeth”…!!!
Excuse me? I haven’t said a word and already you are lying to me!?
Not ONCE have I heard an Indian Dell technical support script-reader announce an Indian name. I’ve been calling various technical support lines who have Indian script readers 2-3 times a week for at least 4-5 years now. Coincidence? I just happen to get Indian Dell technical support script-readers with American/English names? I really don’t think so.
And every one of the aforementioned companies, et al. (and others) do this.
Now, I have a deep dislike for anyone that starts off a conversation with me with a flat-out, obvious lie. From that point on, I have no reason to treat them with the respect that would normally be due to someone who is there to help me.
In that light, here is a link to a site of Indian baby names and a link to a site with Indian last names.
Now you can make up a name that will fit them much better than the made up name they gave you.

My picture does not fill full monitor screen.
There is roughly 1/2″ black border around edge of
screen. How do I correct this?

Your monitor should have controls on it that will let you accomplish this.
Find the menu button, and then you can go through the menu to find the size adjustments.

I’d say your sound card driver is corrupt or disabled.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, get your computer to a technician where you are so he/she can straighten it out.

Sorry Sarah,
But you have given me absolutely zero data to help you with. I am not a clarivoiant, nor is this intended to be a technical help site.
If you need help, might I suggest going here:
http://losangelescomputerhelp.com
and ask them for help since this is what they do.

Okosun,
You have, as Sarah did above your comment, deliver little information to work with.
I don’t know if you have a Windows. Linux or Apple laptop so I have no way of helping you.
If you actually do need help, might I suggest that you contact:
http://losangelescomputerhelp.com
and ask them for help since this is what they do, and please give them more data than you did me… :-)

Everytime I start up my computer, I get the message: MMVPC70.dll could not be found; maybe re-installing it will fix the problem? What is this? Could this have something to do with why my printer is not communicating with my PC?
» Dan
04/9/06 @ 9:41 pm
That file can be found here:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mmvcp70
What it has to do with the printer, I have no idea, since I know neither the computer, operating system or printer you are using…
Man, if this keeps up I’m going start charging Dell for all this support…
:-)

only way i can look at my laptop monitor is to hold it like a book, the key board is on the right and screen is on the left how do i fix that so i can type and look at the screen at the same time

Hi Soucie,
It sounds like you have a loose connector inside the laptop going from the motherboard to the display. You’d have to open her up, find the display cable and make sure it’s connected well.
If that doesn’t work, or if you prefer not doing surgery, you can simply connect an external display (either flat-panel/LCD or older CRT style) to almost all laptops.
Cheers,
Dan

This disease is spreading to recruiting to. I keep getting these calls from Indians with heavy accent who introduce themselves as “John” or “Bob”.
I feel like throwing up, even though I’m an Indian myself!
Anyway, here’s my site on Indian Baby Names that has 5000 more names for your choice ;-)
Thanks,
Ravi

It has been fun reading some of these postings. People don’t realize this is not a site for direct communication to the companies.
For the sideways data on the screen,
press CTRL-ALT-Up Arrow

Thanks for the acknowledgement! And I know - we get LOTS of them for some reason. It’s ok, hopefully they read my followups and get the idea…
Cheers!
