Windows Longhorn is now Windows Vista

First you should know that “Vista” is a Spanish word meaning ‘view’ or ‘point of view’ such as a stop along a highway that has a particularly good view. Therefore, Windows is now a point of view… Not a point of production, as in getting work done production.

Personally I think the name is VERY appropriate. And last month I wrote an article regarding Windows (then code-named Longhorn) and its worth to the computing environment. To simplify:

“So, on the whole, what does it look like the new users of Windows (Longhorn) are going to be spending their hard-earned money for? A more productive, faster operating system? No.

Another Windows XP with cheap-thrill pictures that could be downloaded for free…”

And the best part for me is that Microsoft seems to be bragging about it.

From the Seattle Times comes and article titled “Microsoft Windows’ new Vista” wherein Windows director, Neil Charney, states:

“We think that the new version of Windows really deserved a name that was more representative of what it specifically brings to customers.”

I couldn’t agree more. You get a better VIEW with Windows Vista. Not a better computing evironment.
