Next Internet Explorer update when? No thanks!!!
The Seattle Times recently carried an article about the new version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, and two things caught my eye.
First, it will not be available until the release of Longhorn (the Microsoft codename for the latest version of Windows) that is, until 2006. (So far.)
Internet Explorer has become known and loathed as the worst piece of software you could possibly have installed on your computer, unless of course you WANT to have all the spyware, trojans, popups and such that this program literally attracts in it’s use daily.
If one of my products had a reputation like that, I’d be getting it fixed in a heartbeat. But then again, I’m not on the verge of losing a monopoly in any of my products.
Secondly, Jim Allchin, head of the Windows platform division states “We have a very, very innovative set of capabilities that we’re putting in the next version.”
Oh great - just what the spyware and trojans need - more ‘capabilities’! Why is it Microsoft just doesn’t get it!?
‘Capabilities’ such as the current ActiveX, Windows Scripting and the Microsoft Virtual Machine are what gets Internet Explorer in trouble with spyware, trojans, popups and such in the first place!
For crying out loud Microsoft - build a better/faster browser - NOT more ‘capabilities’!!!
Mr. Allchin also states that “…and there will be a set of extensions that Microsoft does as well as others.” Good to know that Microsoft might finally catch up in some ways I suppose.
