Web ad server infects visitors
On Saturday a.m., 19 Nov, 2004 ad server Falk AG was attacked and made to infect visitors to webpages they serve ads to with the Bofra virus.
This infected any Windows computer running Internet Explorer except for Windows XP SP2.
Website The Register noted this action and removed the ad server’s connection to their site, and as of Monday 09:00 -0800 GMT there are no ads on this site.
Falk AG’s official statement:
“On Saturday (5:10 am-1130 am GMT) a virus was found on the Falk network which was inadvertently redistributed to a small number of users (calculated under 2%). The virus was originally introduced to our European network where it was first detected. As of 11:30 am GMT, the virus was removed from all Falk European and US Networks and normal ad delivery was restored.” Article link

Question: what does “infected any Windows computer running Internet Explorer except for Windows XP SP2″ mean?
Does it mean any non-WinXP SP2 Windows machine that is running, has IE on it and is used to visit that website?
Or does it mean any non-WinXP SP2 Windows machine that is running, has IE on it and is used to visit that website with IE?
Assuming it’s the latter, I think the clarification would be helpful. Heck, it would be helpful in any case.

Sorry, that one was posted a bit late…
I meant any non-WinXP SP2 computer using IE to browse and visiting a site with Falk AG ads on it during that time period.
Cheers!
