JPEG worms and no IE support!?
Recently, Microsoft decided that they would only continue security updates for Internet Explorer users running Windows XP, and now JPEG virus/worm threats appear…
With the dependance on IE that Microsoft forced on consumers starting with Windows 98 for doing things as simple as viewing JPEG files, what _will_ Microsoft do? Back-pedal anyone?
More importantly, will the few websites that still demand users that access their site run Internet Explorer finally get wiser?

Yes, that’s lovely. This seems to have gone from what might have been a “slim” chance of usage to an expectation that JPEG attacks could come soon.
So what exactly do you recommend for us mere mortals?

The JPEG problem is in how Microsoft Internet Explorer displays this particular type of file.
At the time of this writing, if you don’t have Windows XP, your best bet is to use another browser.
Firefox, Mozilla, Opera and K-Meleon are all excellent replacements.
In fact, Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal recently joined the bandwagon by recommending “dumping” Internet Explorer for Firefox.

Robert Vamosi of CNet wrote an extremely well written description of the latest security problem with Internet Explorer.

Hm. Okay. As discussed, it’s time for me to start looking more closely at Linux.

A very interesting website. I plan to access it again when I get home and have more time. There is much I need to look into here.
